Healing From Within
With all the stress and busyness in our daily lives, we often forget to breathe, look around and take inventory of what is really important. All too often we lose sight of what matters most and continue in a pattern of feeling unfulfilled.
Changing this pattern is not easy and often frightening. It can be difficult to let go of negative habits and experiences in our lives because they may feel familiar and hold the illusion of comfort.
As a result, we often find ourselves in toxic situations that mimic the chaos, abuse and neglect we may have experienced in past relationships. My goal is to help you identify the changes you want to make in your life and leave the unhealthy characteristics of your past behind.
Having guidance and support through this process of change is important. Together we will explore potential obstacles to moving forward and find ways to use your strengths and core values to develop a sense of freedom to live the life you want.
About Karen
I’m Karen Horne, a licensed professional counselor with over 20 years of clinical experience.
I work with individuals, couples and families ranging in age from eighteen to late adulthood.
I received my M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance from the University of West Georgia in 1992 and my Ed.S. in Community Counseling from Georgia State University in 1994.
My Approach
My goal as your therapist is to provide an engaging, collaborative and challenging environment to help you discover your true self and live a balanced life with direction and purpose.
I view every client as a unique individual and therefore do not subscribe to a “one size fits all” approach. I integrate a variety of treatment modalities into my practice including cognitive behavioral, humanistic and solution focused therapies.
When working with clients, I consider the whole person, including emotional, mental, physical and spiritual aspects. I believe that if one of these areas is out of balance, then other aspects of our lives are also negatively impacted.
I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Reprocessing Desensitization), a unique and highly effective approach to treating PTSD and other problems resulting from traumatic experiences.
My areas of specialization include depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, trauma, stress management and grief and loss.
MY PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
POSITIVE IMPACT: Provide counseling to low income individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. I help clients with resource management and coping strategies to deal with their diagnoses and I facilitate ways for clients to live healthy and
productive lives.
HOSPICE ATLANTA: Provided emotional support and comfort to terminally ill patients and their loved ones as well as bereavement support including facilitating grief support groups.
